How To Measure Your Kitchen
Floor PlanMake a sketch of your existing kitchen on the grid sheet provided. Record all measurements in inches rather than feet. Show all windows and doors using the symbols, below.
- Start in one corner and measure each section of wall, windows and doors. (When measuring windows and doors, include the trim in the measurement.) Record the measurements on your sketch.
- Measure the total distance of each wall. Record the measurements on your sketch.
- For each wall, add the wall section measurements (1) and compare to the total wall measurement (2). These measurements should be the same.
Plumbing and HeatingLocate the center of the plumbing and the location of the heating/air conditioning registers. Record on your sketch using the symbols, below.
ElectricalLocate the range outlet, electric outlets and electric switches. Record on your sketch using the symbols, below.

Vertical DimensionsMeasure door heights, window heights and the space below the windows. When measuring the doors and windows, include the trim in the measurement. Download the diagrams and record.

Soffit DimensionsMeasure the soffit height and width. Download the diagram and record.
